Every iOS update is an adventure. After upgrading your iPhone 5s/5c/SE/6/6s to a new iOS version, it could be an amazing experience of new intelligent features; also, it could be a disaster of data loss. For example, your iPhone contacts could be gone after the iOS update. To deal with the situation, here is how to get missing contacts back after an iOS update.
If you have backed up your iPhone with iTunes or iCloud, you can always get the contacts back by recovering the backup files. But there is a drawback: the current data in your iPhone will be all replaced by the backup files. That means a new data loss: the data that is created since the backup would be gone after restoring from the backup. Also, you probably don't make any backup on iCloud or iTunes. Therefore, to get back your lost contacts, the best solution is using a third-party app. FonePaw iPhone Data Recovery, which enjoy a high reputation among data recovery tool, is good choice for you.
The FonePaw program enables you to retrieve iPhone contacts with or without backup. You can preview the contacts' name, phone number, address, etc., on the program and get the contact information back on your computer. The current data on your iPhone won't be interfered.

Tick the contacts that you would like to get back and click Recover. From the pop-up window, choose the folder to save the contacts. You can then find the gone contacts on the folder of your device's name. The contacts are stored in three formats: CSV, HTML, VCF.
Before you get started, make sure the following are true:
1. You have installed iTunes on your computer.
2. You have made backup of your device with iTunes.
STEP 1 Select iTunes Backup to Restore
On FonePaw iPhone Data Recovery, enter the Recover from iTunes file mode. The iTunes backup that you have made on the computer will be listed. Select the one you need according to the backup date, and click Start Scan.
Tip: if you can't find backup file on the program, possibly the device has not been synced with the iTunes on this computer before or the location of backup files has changed. For the latter, you can select the right folder of the backup files on the program.
STEP 2 Get the Gone Contacts Back
It could take a while to scan the iTunes backup. You can manage the scanning process by clicking Pause or Stop. After scanning, choose Contacts to access contact information on your device. Tick the contacts that you need, and click Recover. The contacts will be back to your computer.
Data loss is very common after a system update. Therefore, it is better that you have made backup locally or on iTunes/iCloud before the update.
