My iPhone 7 Plus is frozen when I am playing games. And it seems that the screen is dead. What do I need to do to fix this frozen iPhone?

Many users might get confused when their iPhone is frozen or unresponsive. A frozen iPhone is not something that happens frequently, but it does happen sometimes due to the following situations:

  • overheating when it is used for a long duration under a covered place;

  • your iPhone has not enough storage space;

  • your iPhone has installed a faulty or corrupted app, etc.

It seems pretty complicated to explain the reasons, but it is actually very easy to fix this issue by yourself. On the first section, we will show you how to fix a frozen iPhone X/8/8 Plus/7/7 Plus/6/5 with three methods, then on the next section, you will learn how to restore iPhone data if there is any data loss after your phone has been back to normal.

Method 1: Restart the iPhone

First, turn off iPhone by pressing and holding the "Sleep/Wake" button until a red slider appears. Next, turn on your iPhone by pressing and holding the "Sleep/Wake" button until the Apple logo appears.

If your iPhone is not responding, then press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button and the "Home" button at the same time for at least 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo appears.

Method 2: Update software

It is very important to keep your iPhone updated in order to keep it working properly. When your iPhone is freezing up or shutting down apps, you can fix it with the latest update. Please make sure that you are using the latest version of iTunes when updating your iPhone.

Then, connect your iPhone to the computer you usually sync it with. Next, while running iTunes, check in the left column under Devices and go to select your device. Click on "Check for Update" in the "Summary" tab. Then you can finish the update by following the instructions.

Method 3: Restore iPhone in iTunes

If the above two methods fail to fix your frozen device, you should try restoring your iPhone via iTunes. Restoring iPhone with iTunes will take your iPhone back to its factory settings, which means that all your text messages, photos, apps, podcasts, videos, music, notes and other data will be removed from your iPhone. So you must sync all of your important iPhone data to iTunes before you want to use this method.

First, you need to make sure that you are using the latest version of iTunes.

Then, connect your iPhone to computer with a USB cable. When your device is detected by iTunes, go to "Device", click on your iPhone then choose "Restore" in the "Summary" tab. Once restored, your iPhone will get back to the normal condition.
