How to Turn off Shuffle Mode on iPhone/iPod

By Emily Waston, Friday, August 28, 2020

As a mode of music playback, shuffle mode plays songs in random order. With this mode on, you never know what's going to be next. Sometimes, you may just want to listen to music in order but the shuffle mode cannot be shut down.

Usually, there are two common situations that the iPhone fails to turn off shuffle mode.

1. You can't figure out where the Shuffle button is.

The button is just hidden by default, not appearing on the first screen, so users often don't know where it is.

2. The screen is stuck.

If the screen stuck, everything includes shuffle mode will not respond. The Shuffle button cannot light up even though you try tapping or pressing it.

Here are four useful solutions to solve these problems.

Solution 1: Turn off the shuffle mode by tapping the Shuffle button

If you're using Apple Music, you can find the Shuffle button below the play button. You need to slide up the screen but avoid sliding from below the screen, especially near the home button, or else it will lead you to the iPhone's Control Center instead.

If you're using Spotify, follow the steps below to turn off shuffle play on Spotify.

Step 1 Open Spotify and navigate to Your Library.

Step 2 Select a playlist or album then choose a song to start playing.

Step 3 Click the name of the song at the bottom of the screen and tap the Shuffle icon on the far left of the playback controls.

The two crisscrossing arrows icon will turn grey if the Shuffle mode is turned off.

Solution 2: Disable shuffle mode by restarting the app or iPhone/iPod

First of all, force the music app to close by swiping up from the bottom of the home screen and close the music app completely. If the force shutdown doesn't work, you'll need to restart your phone. d

Step 1 Press and hold on the sleep/wake or power button on your iPhone until the notification of slide to power off appears.

Step 2 Release the button and use your fingers to slide to power off your phone.

Step 3 Press and hold on the sleep/wake or power button again until the Apple logo appears. Release the button and wait for the reboot.

If you enable the music app and found it still plays songs randomly, move on to the next method.

Solution 3: Exit shuffle mode by reinstall the app

Step 1 Long press the icon of the music app until it jiggles.

Step 2 Tap the "x" on the upper-left corner of the app to delete it.

Step 3 Go to the App Store to search for the app and reinstall it.

So far, your problem should be solved. But if the shuffle mode on iPhone won't turn off is caused by the stuck screen, the next solution will be the most suitable one for you.

Solution 4: Fix shuffle mode won't turn off on iPhone with the best way
