By Elsie Wesley, Sunday, April 03, 2016

This year has seen the release of Samsung Galaxy S7. Placing a big focus on the Android camera, Samsung is endeavored to catch up the quality of that of iPhone 6s in terms of depth of field, both front and rear camera, performance in low light, camera speed, color reproduction, and many other features. And we will pick out some of those features and make a detail analysis.

1. Depth of field

Depth of field

Both rear and front-facing cameras of Samsung Galaxy S7 has big, bright, f1.7 apertures, which improves low light performance. Besides, it allows Galaxy S7 take photos with shallow depth of field, helping you to stress the certain object and making your image look more professional.

As the illustration above shows, you can see that photo taken by Samsung Galaxy S7 has a much thinner strip of the street in focus than that is taken by iPhone 6s. The 6s comes with an aperture of f2.2, which is associated with the depth of field. In the photo taken by iPhone 6s, more of the street is focused. Besides, the background is not so blurry.

2. Front-facing Camera

Front-facing Camera

Samsung Galaxy S7 has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, which performs extremely well, particularly in a good light. And so does iPhone 6s. However, S7 outweighs iPhone 6s in terms of rear camera because it has a wider field of view. So Galaxy S7 can fit more of the background in the picture while iPhone 6s perform better with selfies. So which one is better? It depends on personal preference.

3. Performance in Low Light

Performance in Low Light

As we mentioned above, Samsung Galaxy sports a bigger aperture than that of iPhone 6s. This enables the phone to take better photos in low light. Just take a look at the image above. Both are taken in a dark corner indoor. The one shot by Samsung Galaxy S7 is better as the color balance is warm. The flaw can be that is seems much sharper. Nevertheless, the shot by iPhone 6s is underexposed and misses the focus.

4. Camera Speed

Camera Speed

During the test, we find that Samsung Galaxy S7's camera is relatively faster than iPhone's. But this does not mean iPhone's camera is slow. In the test, iPhone 6s takes some three or four seconds to launch from the moment you activate the screen. When it comes to Samsung Galaxy S7, the waiting time is reduced. So what about the autofocus speed? The answer is that Samsung Galaxy S7 takes shorter time to focus on the object. And after tapping the shutter button, Samsung Galaxy S7 is faster than iPhone 6s to shoot.

Conclusion

Samsung achieves stride improvement. And it now performs better than iPhone 6s when it comes to the camera. However, this does not mean that iPhone behaviors badly. As a titan in the mobile phone field, iPhone prides its high-quality camera. Both do a good job in taking photos. But by comparison, Galaxy S7 is a notch above.
