Touch ID is a kind of fingerprint reader on iDevices, including iPhone 7/7 Plus iPhone 5s, iPhone 6/6 Plus, iPad mini 3/mini 4, iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro. Apple introduces a new version of this technology on iPhone 6s/6s Plus which performs much better. However, there are still bugs and issues.

Touch ID is a good choice to unlock iPhone as some may hate pressing the Home button. In addition, we can sign into Amazon, LastPass and many other apps. You can pay for apps in App Store with your fingerprint.

Perfectly working Touch ID allows us to buy stuffs on Amazon and apps in App Store with inputting the password. But sometimes Touch ID fails to work. If the problems occur after you upgrade your device from iOS 9 to another version like iOS 10/iOS 11. To solve the problem, you should downgrade it before a newer version is available.

Below are more solutions to Touch ID problems.

Solution 1: How to Fix Touch ID Failures

Fix Touch ID Failures

The simplest method of fixing Touch ID failure is to re-train your iDevice with your fingerprints. In the past, Touch ID may forget fingerprints. But now the iOS software updates have improved it. In iOS 8/9/10, the issue is further fixed. This can help if your fingerprint changed slightly due to wear, dry skin and so on.

Before you unlock your iOS device and re-train Touch ID to solve Touch ID failures, remove dirt or sweat from the Touch ID sensor and wipe any oil or sweat from your hands. Then act as below:

Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Enter your Passcode. On the next screen, swipe from the right to left on each fingerprint to delete them. When this is finished, tap on "Add a Fingerprint…" to re-train Touch ID.

Solution 2: How to Fix Touch ID Not Working at All

Your Touch ID breaks. Under such circumstance, you can try a hard reset to thoroughly wipe your iPhone and set it up like new. This is able to solve the problem. If this fails, you need to go to Apple Store or send the device for repair.

Solution 3: How to Fix Touch ID Not Working in App Store

Sometimes you may fail to use Touch ID in App Store. This can be related to the need to re-train Touch ID. And sometimes there can be a software issue. Fix with the below method:

  2. Then turn off iTunes & App Store. Reboot your iPhone or iPad.
